WHOLE CHILD DEVELOPMENT FOR DISPLACED LEARNERS

Purpose

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE NETWORK AND HOW WILL IT ACHIEVE ITS GOALS?

The key purpose of this network is to expand the inclusion of Psychosocial Support and Social and Emotional Learning (PSS/SEL) in education in order to achieve holistic learning outcomes, especially for refugee children and displaced learners. PSS/SEL approaches are essential for the wellbeing and mental health of young people, especially those who have endured or are experiencing the disruption and trauma of living in contexts of crisis and conflict. SEL skills can also help communities and populations grapple with complex change and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To achieve this the network will:

AMPLIFY

Strengthen network members’ ability to deliver education reform by providing opportunities for them to share ideas publicly, through public online conferences and strategic publications.

EXCHANGE

Increase network members access to contextualized resources and approaches to PSS/SEL, including through knowledge-exchange opportunities within network meetings.

INFLUENCE

Engage with peers and other education stakeholders who understand the importance of the inclusion of PSS/SEL in education, and have knowledge/solutions to share. Individually and collectively they will shape the debate and advance thinking and policy within their institutions around PSS/SEL in education reform.

CATALYZE

Provide a means to draw upon cutting edge insights from participants and partners’ existing and future research, policy and thought leadership work.

WHY IS SALZBURG GLOBAL LEADING THIS WORK?

Salzburg Global Seminar is an independent non-profit organization founded in 1947 to challenge current and future leaders to shape a better world. Our multi-year programs bridge divides and expand collaboration to transform systems.

All of our programs on the future of education and work are grounded in leadership, vision and values. We build networks for innovation and social change to fulfil our mission of leadership for a better world. Connecting and nurturing human capital through dynamic networks lies at the heart of our theory of change.

The network for Whole Child Development in Displaced Learners is being run in partnership with Porticus and is part of their All Eyes on Learning program. AEoL involves multiple initiatives that collectively contribute towards ensuring that displaced children and children in host communities are attaining holistic learning outcomes which can support their full development.
